EU-Wide Initiative Gives Students Avatars to Pursue Science Studies

As European enrollment in science classes continues to dip, an EU-funded project has been created with the intention of slowing this trend.

DYNALEARN is a EU-wide initiative that aims to create a virtual learning environment giving students the ability to build conceptual models using their avatars with highly social behaviors. The technology will enable real-time comparisons between the students model and the models of other students and teachers, which will hopefully lead to quick modifications.

The new tool will emphasise visual, diagrammatic representations of concepts. This will help students to articulate their ideas and to exchange ideas through the Web with other students. Eight countries are collaborating on the project and has been funded with 2.45-million Euros.
