RezEd Internship Annoucement: Virtual World Event Planner!

Global Kids, Inc., a New York City based non-profit organization dedicated to
transforming urban youth into successful students and global and community leaders, is
seeking to fill an internship position as Virtual World Event Planner.

RezEd: The Hub for Virtual World Education (www.RezEd.org) is an online hub providing practitioners using virtual worlds access to the highest quality resources and research in the field to establish a strong network of those using virtual worlds for learning. Produced by Global Kids (GK), a non-profit based in New York, RezEd features podcasts twice a month, Aha! Moments [where a practitioner shares a recommendation that helped them in their work], discussions, and has a thriving community of 1600+ members.

GK is developing this growing community of practice by expanding the resources available through the social network, including hosting virtual world events. This includes hosting events every two months, where these practitioners can meet in virtual worlds and discuss current events or resources that pertain to virtual worlds and learning. These mix-reality events will be recorded and produced in to podcasts. The Virtual World Event Planner will also be responsible for supporting community building and fostering online discussions before and after events.

The intern will join GK's Online Leadership Program (OLP) in New York City, where the position will be based. GK’s work is on the cutting-edge of developing best practices in applying global youth development practices and educational in virtual worlds. This internship does not require being in the Manhattan office for the entire 15 hours; working remotely is possible if needed.

This is an excellent position for someone interested in new digital media, innovative education and virtual worlds, and networking opportunities in a vibrant and emerging field.

The ideal candidates is tech-savvy, resourceful, creative, and a team-player who possess
the following capabilities and experiences:

• Experience with virtual worlds and online social networking, experience with planning events in virtual worlds is a plus.
• A college or graduate student, with a digital media and/or an education background.
• Ability to self-teach the skills required to use the virtual world of Second Life.

In addition, we prefer candidates with:
• The ability to take initiative.
• Strong communication, writing, organizational, and computer skills.
• A short learning curve around new digital and Internet tools and applications.
• The ability to work remotely with others.
• The ability to manage multiple streams of net-based interactivity and
• communication at the same time.
• Accessibility to downtown Manhattan.
• A willingness to work some evenings and an occasional weekend afternoon.
• Ability to work within a fast-paced, distracting environment.
• A fast typer and an efficient mutitasker.
