About Me:
Dr. Weusijana is a learning scientist researching and developing advanced technologies for informal and formal learning.
His academic interests include Internet educational software, informal and formal learning with Multi-User Virtual Environments (MUVEs), effective teaching strategies for web-based tutoring software, distance education, computer modeling of traditional African social environments, home schooling, metacognitive reflection, fostering learner engagement, and educational access.
Greetings Dr. Weusijana -
I think we are more or less neighbors, as I am also located in Seattle. I completed my PhD in education at the UW in 2003, and now I work for the World Affairs Council (www.world-affairs.org). Awhile back, Susan Mosberg suggested that I contact you because of our mutual interest in education in virtual worlds and especially Second Life. Right now, I am working on a long-term project involving an eighth grade class at Denny Middle School and the Skoolaborate project (www.skoolaborate.com). The teachers and I are hoping that this will eventually serve as a model for other "international schools" in the district. I would love to meet in person if you have the time and hear about your interests in virtual worlds. I think that this Denny project might also serve as an interesting context for a research project, if you know anyone who is interested in researching K-12 education in virtual worlds.
Sincerely,
Laura Adriance
