Currently, I'm working towards a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development at the University of South Alabama where I also work in the Online Learning Lab.
:-) Yeah, I really felt uber-grouch-y and in need of chocolate after my weekly phone meeting with my chair a few weeks ago. So the M&M personae was just perfect at the time :'P
What a great idea to do a phenomenology approach to your SL experience! 2 years ago, I did a paper on learning in a foreign language. That was an interesting exercise in phenom. (My native language is French). My dissertation is an experimental treatment combining social presence, immediacy behaviors, didactic teaching and pre-recording. I"ve got quite a few loose ends right now.
See you soon in world!
Stasia, welcome to Social Presence in Virtual Worlds. I can't wait to read more about your research journey in SL. What are your research questions for your dissertation? Are you planning an ethnographic study of your online students or an experiment? Pray do tell!!!! I am working on my dissertation as well, looking at the effects of social presence and immediacy in learning events in SL (hence the Social Presence in Virtual Worlds group in RezEd. HOpe I see your posts there soon. :-)
