Google's "Lively" and Future Implications for Learning as Multi-Grid Avatars

With the release of Google's new "Lively" what can we predict for online learning as virtual worlds expand and become more mainstream? And with IBM and Linden Lab's new explorations, what are community thoughts on the implications of multi-grid avatar identity will be on the educational uses of virtual worlds?

It's all about marketing budgets and name recognition. Google will take a big chuck of the 3D Chat Room market (regardless of how dorky Lively is) It will also introduce 3D Chat to LOTS of people that have not yet experienced 3D online .. I suppose that is OK.

IBM and Linden, on the other hand, are busy establishing standards to solve a key engineering problem, virtual world multivendor interoperability, in my book that is far more important in the scheme of things.

I think that what IBM and LL are doing will have far more impact on the future dynamics of teaching and learning .. Lively is window dressing
